Third Age 5923: Anticipating the fallout that might occur if Arithon should flee across the border to Havish, Sethvir tasks Asandir with teaching Gestry to wield the crown jewels. Once it becomes likely that Arithon will enter Havish, Asandir finishes Gestry's training and departs.
Gestry positions his war band at Fiaduwynne and begins the process of channeling the flux through the Paravian focus circle. After learning of the Koriani plot to drive Lysaer south into Lanshire, Dakar pleads with Gestry to change Asandir's standing orders. Halika argues that the protection of the free wilds in Elkforest takes precedence. In confidence, Dakar reveals his Black Rose Prophecy and the particulars of Arithon's blood oath. Gestry agrees to assist Arithon after Tarens reveals the prince's role in saving the villagers at Torwent, and warns Halika not to interfere.
Gestry's war band travels to Scarpdale to find Lysaer leading the True Sect army. Upon Dakar's recommendation, Gestry approves a strategically weak charge, in order to distract from Arithon's position. Lysaer is not fooled, forcing Gestry to tap his crown jewels in defense. The initial effect fails to deter the True Sect but his attempt ultimately summons projections of all three Paravian races, halting the fighting and rendering many combatants senseless. The result spares lives on both sides and Dakar hopes that some True Sect soldiers might forsake their faith as a result, although it also causes Gestry's death.
